Johnson Elementary School invites all families to join us on Monday, December 8, from 5:00–6:30 PM for a special Family Literacy Night in the cafeteria!
This exciting evening will feature a free dinner, engaging presentations by Vermont author and performer Rajnii Eddins, and free books for all children under 18.
This event is made possible through Johnson Elementary's CLiF (Children's Literacy Foundation) Year of the Book Grant, a competitive award that supports schools in building strong literacy communities. Throughout the year, the grant supports author visits, storytelling events, new books for students and classrooms, and opportunities for families to connect through reading. CLiF's mission is to inspire a love of reading and writing among children across Vermont and New Hampshire.
We're thrilled to welcome Rajnii Eddins, a Vermont-based poet, author, and educator whose powerful performances blend poetry, hip-hop, and storytelling to celebrate identity, community, and creativity. He was the youngest member of the Afrikan American Writers Alliance at age 11 and has been actively sharing with youth and community in Vermont and throughout New England since 2010. His work encourages young readers and writers to find their voices and share their stories. Rajnii's visit will offer families an unforgettable experience that highlights how words can empower, heal, and connect us all.
Family Literacy Night is more than just an event—it's a celebration of the power of books to bring families together. Reading aloud, sharing stories, and engaging with authors are experiences that strengthen bonds and build lifelong learning habits.
Dinner is totally FREE, but we ask you to RSVP so we have an accurate count for pizza! Scan the QR code below, or click this link to reserve your spot.
Join us for an evening of stories, laughter, and community as we celebrate the joy of reading together!
