Dear JES Parents and Caregivers,
The first day of school is tomorrow, Monday August 30th. Our staff has worked hard to prepare for the arrival of your children. We are so excited to have our classrooms filled with students again. Here is some important information I want to share, including a change to the morning parent drop off procedure:
Covid Measures
The only Covid measure we are employing to start the year is requiring all students, staff, and visitors to our building to wear masks. Similar to last year, masks should be made of cloth. We will not accept gaiters, neck warmers, or bandana style masks or masks that have vents.
Morning Drop Off

Pre-Kindergarten Students: Parents should park in the angled spots behind the school marked “Visitor” and walk their students to the entrance of the school.

By Bus: Buses will be arriving at JES at approximately 7:30am. They will drop students off in the area between the basketball court and the kitchen/gymnasium. School Staff will be outside to direct students to enter the building though the playground (South Porch) entrance to the school.

By Car: Parents of students in grades K-6 should drop off students in the pull off zone near the school playground entrance. We will have a crossing guard stationed in the crosswalk and a staff member set up to direct students to enter the building though the playground (South Porch) entrance to the school

Walkers: Students walking to school should use the playground entrance.

Parents who wish to accompany their child inside should park in the lower lot near the Legion (Tuesday Night Live) field. If there are no spots there, parents can park in the lot off of College Hill where the school garage is located.

Please arrive in time so that your child can be ready to begin class prompty at 8:00am

End of Day Dismissal

The school day ends at 2:30pm.

Buses will be departing JES by 2:40pm daily.

Parent pick up will use the same process we used last year where parents will drive by the basketball court and check in with a staff member who will radio inside to dismiss your student. Then parents will drive around behind the school building to meet their child. Instead of having all parents begin to line up at 2:30pm, I encourage you to view pick up as a window of time between 2:30pm and 2:50pm.
Food Service

All JES students will be served all meals for free this year.

Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria in a portable package. Students wishing to eat breakfast will collect it and take it to their classroom to be eaten.

Welcome Back to School Barbecue
On Friday September 10th we will be hosting an outdoor barbecue for students and their families on the playground, weather permitting. Students will eat lunch at their normal times with parents invited to join. Information about the afternoon preschool meal time will be sent home separately.
Kindergarten: 11:15-11:45
Grades 1-2: 11:45-12:15
Grades 3-4: 12:45-1:15
Grades 5-6: 12:15-12:45
